WOODLANDS
The Woodlands
The Woodlands, which opened in 1974 as one of the nation’s first master-planned communities, is famous for having carved out pockets of suburban and commercial development within an idyllic, native forest. The natural setting, as well as a wide variety of homes, recreation, schools, shopping, and amenities has earned The Woodlands its ranking as one of the top communities in Texas since 1990.
Convenience and Community
Though The Woodlands is an unincorporated area, the 27,000-acre community has all the elements of a complete city: police and fire protection, emergency services, excellent public and private schools, a thriving business center, shopping, entertainment venues, religious congregations, two country clubs, seven golf courses, two YMCA branches, sports leagues, a conference center, a hotel, and a hospital—all carefully arranged for optimal convenience, but in accordance with the community’s respect for nature.
Residents value the serenity of the green pines and silver lakes and the fitness advantage of 100+ miles of winding nature trails and pathways. More than 5,000 acres in the community have been preserved as green space, including more than 100 parks and the 200-acre Lake Woodlands, where bald eagles have nested in recent years.
Known as the “new hometown,” the villages that make up The Woodlands boast street names that reflect the surrounding habitat and its flora and fauna—names like Moon Vine, Wally Bucket, Muskmellow, and Doe Run. Each village is like its own small town, and the neighborhoods within the villages offer unique charms. In fact, The Woodlands real estate offers the widest diversity of home styles and pricing structures in the Houston area: golf course and lakefront properties, lofts and brownstones in the urban Town Center (the community’s “downtown”), 5- and 6-bedroom family homes, and an exclusive gated community.
The Woodlands is located only 27 miles from downtown Houston and 16 miles from Houston Intercontinental Airport; making for an easy commute into the city via Interstate 45 and the Hardy Toll Road.
