First "Spirit of Giving" Award Presented to John A. Daugherty, Jr.
April 04, 2008
HOUSTON (April 4, 2008) – John A. Daugherty, Jr., president of John Daugherty Realtors, was given the newly-established “Spirit of Giving” award from the Nancy Owens Memorial Foundation. Daugherty was selected as a recipient for his years of philanthropic support to the NOMF, which was established in 2002 to aid funding for charities committed to breast cancer research.
“Nancy was special to us all,” Daugherty said of Owens, who worked as a Realtor for his company in 1976, and again in 1992 until her passing in 2001. “I’m grateful in being able to contribute to research funding in memory of Nancy, who valiantly battled this disease. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
NOMF created the award this year to honor contributors who have given more than $20,000 to the foundation for the past five years.
“This honor to John is significant because of his direct work with Nancy,” said Amy Bernstein, co-creator of NOMF. “I know he is pleased to have a part in continuing her fight by giving to the cause – finding a cure for breast cancer, which was her dream.”
This first “Spirit of Giving” was recently presented to four other companies – Houston Title Company, Stewart Title, the Houston Chronicle and Bernstein Realty.
